DWTROPHY 2014 : SHEPSHED DYNAMO XI 5 - 5 ALL STAR STAR XI
(Shepshed won 4-2 on penalties)
Shepshed Dynamo regained the DW Trophy after a ten goal thriller and a penalty shootout. The game itself finished with no less than nine of the goals scored in the first half.
Both teams had early chances but it was Tim Wilkes with a diving header who opened the scoring for Shepshed on thirteen minutes. Three minutes later, Carl Benson levelled the score before Matt Walsh put the All Stars in front on twenty six minutes.
Kirk Master levelled the score for Dynamo on thirty three minutes and then two minutes later, Dave Williams, from distance put Shepshed back in front. In a busy spell of goals Benson levelled three minutes later and a further three minutes later (41), completed his hat trick to put the All Stars in front for the second time. Dean Smith then extended their lead on forty two minutes but in first half injury time Gary Andrews reduced the score line to a one goal deficit by converting a penalty for the 2nd year in succession.
The second half proved to be a quieter affair with only one more goal added to the tally. Matt Nicholson levelled the score for the hosts at five apiece just after the break. Despite chances from both sides neither could gain a winner in regulation time.
Shepshed claimed the DW Trophy with a 4-2 penalty victory with both teams converting their first round of spot kicks. The All Stars then fired wide before Mark Whitehead won it for Shepshed, saving from Rendell Munroe.
With a healthy crowd and plenty of goals, it was a fitting tribute to Dave Wheatley, the non-league stalwart who always enjoyed an entertaining match.
