Shepshed Dynamo progressed to the Semi Finals of the Coalville Charity Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory against Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division side Ashby Ivanhoe.

Although at times a scrappy affair Shepshed's progression to the next round never looked in doubt with Ashby reduced to long range efforts which were either observed by Ryan Thacker in goal or dealt with comfortably by the keeper. Shepshed marshalled at the back by Smedley, Gray and Attenborough controlled any attacks which Ivanhoe conjured up.

Shepshed started strongly with neat football in the first 20 minutes from the back and Luke Edwards was undone by the bone dry pitch from opening the scoreline early on, As per all early pre season games the squad was rotated again with Rob Mulonga and Joe Hopewell being brought into the starting line up replacing Keiron Davies and Ricky Aitean, Steve Chaplin was replaced upfront by Lee Sutton.

The script changed as per usual in the Charity cup competitions if we don't open the score early we resort to trying to beat the opposition at their own game and the match tended to spend too much either in the air going forward or over playing and selling ourselves short with the final delivery. The opening goal finally came with a cross from Luke Edwards on the right hand side for Lee Sutton to tap in. Shepshed could have gone into the break two up but what looked a clear foul on Luke Edwards in the box was ruled out by the referee.

Shepshed after Luke Edwards was replaced by Stev Chaplin extended their lead and from a left hand corner Chaplin headed home to double Shepshed's lead. Chaplin should have made it three as a cross from the left handside evaded Attwood rising and Chaplin's snap chance fell wide of the left hand post. Ashby came into the game and pushed to pull back the deficit and as fore mentioned apart from an effort which struck the right hand post Thacker's clean sheet was never really threatened as the game drew to a close Chaplin went close again and if Sutton had got a better touch on his effort he could have added to his tally.
